Love Comes Close, the debut album by US quartet Cold Cave, gets its global release on Matador Records.

Originally issued as a limited run in North America earlier this year through front man Wesley Eisold’s own label and publishing house Heartworm Press, demand outstripped supply and Love Comes Close sold out immediately.

Cold Cave started life as a personal project for Eisold. Although formerly of eminent hardcore bands such as Some Girls, American Nightmare and Give Up The Ghost, this solo venture was his first foray into song writing. Nevertheless its results impressed labels such as Hospital Productions, What’s Your Rupture? and Japan’s Big Love Records who have all pressed vinyl singles over the course of the band’s existence (see discography right).

With time Cold Cave has gradually evolved from a one-man thrift store Casio show to a full band affair with collaborators Dominick Fernow (influential noise figurehead Prurient and Hospital Productions label head), Caralee McElroy (ex-Xiu Xiu) and Sarah Lipstate (Noveller) bringing their considerable musical talent and experience to the fold.

Love Comes Close, the band’s first full-length album, combines the dark discordant synthesized bleats of Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle with the pop melodies of New Order and early Human League. Lyrically Wesley Eisold’s deadpan delivery and Caralee McElroy’s spoken-word drawl cover such heady subject matter as romance, desolation, alienation and nihilism, together voicing a reticence with the world. The outcome is a collection of dazzling and addictive pop songs underpinned by a shadowy electronic core.

Download free MP3s of album tracks ‘Life Magazine’ and ‘The Laurels Of Erotomania’ from the Matador website.  The digital version of Love Comes Close will be released with three additional and exclusive tracks ‘Double Lives In Single Beds’, ‘Theme From Tomorrowland’ and ‘Now That I’m In The Future’.

To coincide with the release of Love Comes Close, Cold Cave will tour the UK this autumn.
